Goals and strategic lines

General goal
  • To provide an innovative education service to society through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Strategic lines
  • To promote the integration of technology into the classroom by offering the education community in Spain and Latin America the resources required (platforms, tools, methodologies, content and training) so as to encourage their use and to make them active agents of educational innovation..
  • To offer comprehensive training for the optimum integration of ICT into education and learning.
  • To foster and maintain leadership in educational innovation, demonstrating to society the transformative power of ICT.
  • To stimulate the creation of virtual communities of teachers, pupils, parents and other members of the educational sector across national boundaries.

EducaRed aims to integrate technology into the classroom to encourage the incorporation of the Information Society into the educational system. In order to achieve this, the programme offers teachers, pupils and families - the educational community as a whole - the resources required to incorporate ICT into learning and teaching.

The support to EducaRed of the whole educational
community in Latin America

One of our main educational programmes is EducaRed, a programme which was launched in 1998 by Fundación Telefónica, together with leading organisations in the Spanish educational community, to promote the improvement of education and educational excellence through the application and use of ICT in teaching and learning, and by providing the educational community with training, tools, content and services based on ICT to foster the innovative capacity of teachers, families and pupils.

Twelve years later, today's EducaRed, whose main vehicle of expression is its Internet portal, is the result of coordinated work by more than 60 multidisciplinary teams in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. The programme has developed into a benchmark educational initiative in all the countries in which it is active; it covers all levels of education, from nursery through to university access.

In addition to making specialist content and technological tools available to the educational community, the EducaRed programme also provides comprehensive training for the educational community to incorporate ICT effectively into learning and teaching; it also provides a range of resources to promote working online and the collective creation and sharing of knowledge.

All of the programme's services are freely available, both in their virtual and presencial formats; they have been designed and developed with the help of leading experts in educational innovation. At the end of 2009 there were more than 189 collaboration agreements in place with public, private and social entities, bodies and companies.
