Fundación Telefónica has been honored with numerous awards for its social and cultural work in 2008. Some of these distinctions are listed:
- The Spanish Government Awards Fundación Telefónica the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts
In October of 2008, their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia presented Fundación Telefónica with the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts, at a ceremony held at the Columbus Theatre in La Coruña.
This award is given by the Council of Ministers of the Spanish Government in recognition of work in the field of new technologies for education and culture. It applauds Telefónica’s five key programs: EducaRed, Proniño, Telefónica Volunteers, Debate and Knowledge and Art & Technology. Medals of Merit in Fine Arts are awarded to individuals and organizations for outstanding work in the fields of artistic and cultural creation, promotion, or dissemination, or for preserving artistic heritage.
- For the third year running, Fundación Telefónica Chile was given first prize in the private sector category of the national contest, Chile is For All of Us: Towards a Respect of Diversity, 2008 , awarded by the Minister of the General Secretariat of Government.
- Fundación Telefónica Peru received a distinction from the Office for Promoting School, Culture and Sport at the Ministry of Education for its permanent commitment to children, education, art and culture in Peru.
- Fundación Telefónica Peru was also awarded the “TOP IT" Prize by the magazine IT/USERS, in recognition of its contribution to reducing the digital divide in the country.
- Fundación Telefónica Venezuela was recognized by the CECODAP (Community Centers of Learning) and Hogar Bambi, for its unconditional support of children and adolescent care programs.
- The EducaRed program received the 2007 Autelsi prize for Innovation in Teaching awarded the previous year by the Spanish Association of Telecommunications Users and Information Society.
- The EducaRed program in Argentina and its section, “IntegraRed: Educate to Integrate", won an award for Socially-conscious Entrepreneurs, in the category of education, presented by the Ecumenical Social Forum.
- The EducaRede program in Brazil received the 2008 ARede Prize in the special category of education, awarded by the magazine of the same name.
- The EducaRed program in Chile received the 2007 Prize for the Best Latin American Portal, awarded by the Latin American Association of Research Centers and Telecommunications Companies (AHCIET).
- The Proniño program in Chile received the 2007 Bicentennial Distinction Prize, granted the year before. This award is given by Chile’s Bicentennial Commission every year to private organizations and community initiatives that contribute notably to the county’s progress.
- The Prómenino program (Proniño in Portuguese) received the 2008 Award for Social Action from the Brazilian-Spanish Chamber of Commerce. This was in thanks to Fundación Telefónica for its defense of the rights of children and adolescents in Brazil.
- The Proniño program of Fundación Telefónica in Colombia and Peru, was recognized by the Evaluamos.com Awards as the best program of social responsibility in the telecommunications sector.
- In 2008, marking its tenth anniversary, the Proniño program in Ecuador received numerous awards and thanks for helping to end child labor in this country, offered by organizations such as the Child Worker Program of the Central Bank of Ecuador, the Global March against Child Labor, the Help-T Anti-Trafficking Network, Operation Smile Foundation, Parents of the Panita Center in Puerto Quito, etc.
- The Telefónica Volunteers program in Argentina was awarded the CSR Responsibility in Communications Prize, in the category of NGOs and companies, for the ISO 9001 Certification project of the AMAR Civil Association. The chief aim of these awards is to recognize companies, NGOs and the media that have performed outstandingly in matters relating to solidarity and the public good.
- The Telefónica Volunteers program in Brazil was presented with the Annual Telecom Prize for 2008 in the citizenship category.
- The Telefónica Volunteers program in Venezuela received recognition from the Pro-Cura Paralysis Foundation for the support it provides to the “New Hope in Venezuela" initiative.
- The Education through Art program of Fundación Telefónica Chile received an important distinction from Fundación Pais Digital (Digital Nation Foundation) and the Santiago Chamber of Commerce, being included in the book “Innovation Made In Chile 2008. 50 case studies in education".
- The catalogue for the Marta Colvin: In Her Workshop exhibit, published by Fundación Telefónica Chile, received the silver medal of the International Quality of Printing Prize held in São Paulo.
- The full catalogue-dossier published by Fundación Telefónica in Spain for the exhibit, Marín. Photographs 1904-1940, was recognized by PhotoSpain as the Best National Photography Book.
- Furthermore, another two catalogue-dossiers published in Spain, Horacio Coppola. Photography and Thomas Demand. Camera won the Book Design Prize and the Photography Prize, respectively, at the sixth edition of Awards in Visual Design.
