Meet Fundación Telefónica

The Telefónica Group, a leader in the telecommunications sector, carries out social programs in the same countries in which it operates commercially. These projects contribute enormously to economic, social and cultural development, improving the quality of life and promoting equal opportunities for citizens of these countries. Telefónica wants its corporate success to run in parallel with social progress. For the past eleven years, it has been developing important social and cultural projects through its foundation (Fundación Telefónica), which now operates in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.

What is Fundación Telefónica all About?

In 1988, Fundación Telefónica was created in Spain to coordinate long-term social and cultural projects of all Telefónica Group companies. It is the strongest expression of Telefónica’s firm social commitment to the communities in which it operates.

Eleven years later, Fundación Telefónica’s team of more than 130 professionals propels this social and cultural work in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. In addition to the on-going work in these eight countries, through programs like Proniño and Telefónica Volunteers, the foundation’s activities have extended into six more Latin American countries: Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama and Uruguay. In all of these countries, Fundación Telefónica works in tandem with the local Telefónica operators.

A global strategy tailored to the expectations and needs of each country

Each of the eight foundations was established in accordance with local legislation of the respective country. Each of them operates in response to the social realities on the ground. Nonetheless, their strategic approach is global. They all share the same mission, goals and working methods.

Therefore, the foundation’s work is carried out through five major transnational programs, with projects designed to address the real expectations and needs of each of the communities they serve. To do this, Telefónica is involved with local public authorities and various institutions, both educational, social and cultural.
