Debate and Knowledge on the Internet
The Debate and Knowledge Internet portal is the window through which Fundación Telefónica synthesizes, transmits and develops its main lines of activity, encouraging debate through multimedia tools and 2.0, which allows users to take a much more active role.
At present, the contents of this portal are structured into different sections. Their contents are as follows: The old portal of Telefónica’s Information Society, bringing together detailed information about developments in this field in Spain and the Bulletin of the Information Society: Technology and Innovation; all the publications of Fundación Telefónica Collection / Ariel; the contents of the magazineTELOS. Notebooks of Communication and Innovation; multimedia access to the contents of the congresses, seminars, conferences and debate forums; news; blogs relating to areas such as industry, nanotechnology, education and culture, health, etc.;andon-lineseminars, which illustrate the important role of Debate and Knowledge as an interactive meeting point for those interested in analyzing new technologies.
Through its Debate and Knowledge program, Fundación Telefónica offered its support in 2008 to the new Forum for Internet Governance in Spain (IGF Spain), an open platform for debating the main problems posed at present by the Internet, both nationally and internationally. This initiative, coordinated by Professor Jorge Perez of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, is supported by representatives of the corporate sector, associations of telecommunications users, the scientific and technical community, and experts in public policy for the Information Society.
Fundación Telefónica has offered its technical support for operating this new platform, given its experience. In fact, last year it published a study analyzing the fundamental questions about Internet governance.
Faithful to its commitment to make the Information Society more accessible and comprehensible, Fundación Telefónica’s Debate and Knowledge portal wanted to take advantage of the benefits offered by YouTube, doubtlessly, one of the most popular websites worldwide. For this reason, it put into operation the official IS Channel by Debate and Knowledge in April 2008. From this space one can access audiovisual content on technologies and ICT services of general interest, aspects which are part of our everyday lives: DTTV, RFID or IPTV are the formats of video-articles available in the “DivulgaTIC” section of the portal. This area will be expanded in 2009.
