Colombia

City/Town: Pasto. Dates: Two groups will be travelling, one in early July, the other in late July / early August. NGO: PROINCO

  • Both groups will be undertaking activities and workshops with school children in different spaces.
  • The first group will be responsible for installing a playroom and organising activities to ensure that both children and teachers can use this space. The school currently features a library which is neither an attractive or a functional space as far as students are concerned.
  • The second group will work on installing a first aid room. The school does not currently have a space in which students can be suitably attended to, either in terms of first aid and nutritional monitoring and control, or for campaigns designed to promote healthy habits and self-care practices. These rooms will also be used for hygiene, cleanliness and health workshops and activities.

City/Town: Cali. Dates: 2 groups will be travelling, one during the first fortnight in August, the other during the second two-week period. NGO: FUNOF

  • The two groups will undertake a number of activities in different schools and communes in the city of Cali. Here they will interact with parents, teachers, children and teenagers, ensuring cultural exchange and mutual learning.
  • Both groups will carry out specific activities in different schools such as: setting up a library, renovating a football pitch and sporting area, planting trees and improving educational spaces.
  • Both groups will take part in a PUBLIC MOBILIZATION DRIVE regularly undertaken by NGOs in the city in order to raise awareness of the fight against child labour.

El Salvador

City/Town: Concepcion de Ataco. Dates: 13 to 27 August 2011. NGO: FUSAL

Volunteers will collaborate in two schools running workshops with teenage students aimed at raising awareness of the importance of having a life plan that allows them to set out their objectives, commitments and personal goals.

These are two neighbouring schools, meaning that the group will be divided into two to cover both schools and thus benefit Show children. The volunteers will run English and maths support classes, dental hygiene workshops and other activities with parents and teachers.

Guatemala

Panama

City/Town: BOQUETE – CHIRIQUI PROVINCE. Dates: 16 to 30 July 2011. NGO: CASA ESPERANZA

There children will receive schooling and educational support and health and nutritional care. In order that they might better understand the reality in which children and young people live, volunteers will accompany them on the daily bus route that takes them to and from their houses.
