Buenos Aires, 19 July 2012.- Espacio Fundación Telefónica presents, starting tomorrow, the seventh edition of the “MAMbA- Fundación Telefónica. Art and New Technologies” awards, featuring the works chosen during 2011 by a jury consisting of artists and national and international art critics, including Jim Campbell (artist, USA), Rejane Cantoni (artist, Brazil), Jorge Haro (artist, Argentina) and Mariano Sardón (artist, Argentina) and María Victoria Simón (on behalf of Laura Buccellato, Director of the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires).

“Insight”, by Sebastian Díaz Morales is the work awarded with the Grand Prize in the category “Proyectos. Incentivo a la producción artística (Projects. Incentive to Artistic Production)”. The installation “THUMOS (Corazón-Impulso)”, by Jorge Caterbetti, earned the First Prize; with Christian Wloch taking the Second for his work “Antenópolis” and Marcello Mercado the Third for “Paisajes con vacas (no hay nada más puro que la sombra de una vaca) – Landscapes with Cows (There’s Nothing Purer than a Cows Shadow)”. The mentions went to Gabriela Golder (La Zona – The Zone) and Laurence Bender (Soliloquio - Solliloquium).

In the “Obra Realizada – Completed Work” category, the First Prize went to Yamil Burguener for his work “Spill Over Ber”. “Constelaciones - Constellations” by Ananké Asseff took the Second Prize; and “La simultaneidad de nuestra percepción de la luz – the Simultaneity of Our Perception of Light” by Nicolás Bacal, the third one. Honorary mentions in this category were awarded to Javier J. Plano (5 acciones sobre la memoria colectiva – 5 actions about collective memory) and Cláudia Flores Colominas (Primarios).

The selected videos will also be exhibited: “Galindo” by Marcelo Galindo, “Entre la decepción y la esperanza – Between disappointment and hope” by Cintia Clara Romero, “Colección Mercedes Santamarina – Mercedes Santamarina Collection” by Cristian Segura Camilo Guinot and the untitled video by Camilo Guinot.

At the exhibition opening event, Alejandrina D`Elia, Fundación Telefónica’s manager of Art and New Technologies stated that "one of the aims of Espacio Fundación Telefónica is to promote research and development of innovative projects within technological art, establishing a platform for local artists with international presence. This initiative supports this objective by facilitating the presentation of their creations in a country with a solid track record in this area which is a benchmark in the region”.

Laura Buccellato, Director of the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires and guest curator of the exhibition highlighted that “This seventh edition – just as the ones before – bears witness to the impact of the new media on the local artistic landscape, where new technologies replace not so new ones constantly, speed up time, and occupy unfathomable spaces. Artistic creation is inserted by transgressing the shapes of mere information, with the intangibility of your thoughts and the immaterial nature that these new mediums lend to the increasingly interdisciplinary works, which invade the planetary culture”.

The “MAMbA-Fundación Telefónica Awards” were created in 2002 with the purpose of promoting and disseminating innovative artistic expressions, generating a space that nurtures the development of productions capable of pushing, from the hand of technology, the boundaries of visual arts. The award also seeks to promote the development of experimental projects, and represents an economic incentive for the awarded artists.

In the latest edition of the award, Fundación Telefónica invested a total of $141,000 in awards and production of original works. The Grand Award for research and production was endowed with $60,000. This investment does not include the production of the exhibition in Espacio Fundación Telefónica, and the edition of the catalogue after the opening.

“MAMba- Fundación Telefónica Awards. Arts and New Technologies” can be visited Monday through Saturday, from 2pm to 8.30 pm, at Arenales 1540. Admissions are open and free.

Within the context of this opening, the Space also presented its new image, which will unify all Fundación Telefónica art and technology spaces in Latin America and Spain visually and under the same name.

Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Buenos Aires, pioneer in the project since 2003, has been the model for the art and technology spaces in Peru, Venezuela, Chile, and the one which was recently opened in Madrid.

Under a single identity, Espacio Fundación Telefónica sets out to promote actions in both continents, under the same motto: to work with a strong focus in the generation of innovative projects in the field of art, education and technology, spreading knowledge, supporting research, artistic production and the dissemination of cultural projects that follow this line.
