Fundación Telefónica invites you once again to take part in the Escuelas Amigas project, a cultural exchange project between Spanish and Latin American School Children.

Madrid, 7 September 2012.-This initiative will allow you to become the driving force behind a school network that joins schools from all over Spain with Latin American schools providing schooling to children benefiting from Fundación Telefónica’s programs. Over 500 volunteers, 300 education centres, 700 teachers and around 11,000 students from 13 countries have taken part in the project, now in its fourth edition to date.

As a Telefónica Volunteer you can nominate the Spanish school you would like to join the program (it can be a school in your neighbourhood, the school your children study at, or any school you like). If you are personally involved with a school, we encourage you not to miss out on this opportunity. If you do not have any connection with a school, we will select one for you to collaborate with, in any of the two ways: on-site (visiting the school occasionally, to help both the teachers and participating students) or online. We will do our best to make sure that the school is near your home.

If you feel that it is important to promote respect and communication among children from different countries, and to promote collaborative work, and if you would like to experience first hand the social and educational potential of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), this project is for you, and you will enjoy experiences such as the ones which, over the years, other volunteers have shared with us. According to a Spanish volunteer “it has been a truly unforgettable experience… a person alone can get quite far, but as part of a team, the sky's the limit”. According to another volunteer, an Ecuadorian colleague “these types of projects, involving children, are really motivating… taking part in Escuelas Amigas is a pleasure, and I hope to keep on collaborating for many years to come”.

To collaborate in Escuelas Amigas you only need to:

• Register through this link
• Have some time to spare between now and June 2013: the project is very flexible and you’ll be able to organize your time. At any rate, it is advisable to put aside a couple of hours a week.
• Possess a personal computer with internet connection and an email address.
• Be enthusiastic and interested in getting involved in the world of education.

What will your duties be?

Together with other volunteers, as part of a team, you will drive the twinning process between the Spanish school and a Fundación Telefónica Classroom in Latin America, by means of a shared blog, and following the scheduled didactic activities.

Members of the volunteer team will be appointed tasks such as:

• Providing support and coordinating didactic activities with teachers in order to promote communication between the Escuelas Amigas (Befriended Schools).
• To liven up the blog where the planned collaborative activities will be listed.
• To take a creative and active part in the Online volunteer group that will be created.

In order to carry out all these tasks, you will be trained, tutored, and mentored by the Escuelas Amigas team on an ongoing basis.
