Artistic Heritage

Origins of the Collection

At first, Telefónica’s Art Collection was the materialisation of the Company’s desire to establish a collection with works by authors that, regardless of the level of praise they had garnered, still had little presence in Spanish museums. With the initial premise of increasing the visibility of internationally prominent artists - such as Antoni Tápies, Luis Fernández, Juan Gris, Eduardo Chillida etc. - Telefónica acquired and assembled a significant assortment of works by these creators, and is rated by critics as one of the most relevant examples of corporate collecting. These funds are currently on display at the Reina Sofia National Arts Museum, in Madrid, the Institute of Modern Art, in Valencia, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, in Barcelona.

Documents about the collection: (spanish)
Victoria Combalia Dexeus: La Importancia del Coleccionismo, Hoy.
Valeriano Bozal: Rebasar los Límites.
Francisco Jarauta: La Tensión de la Forma.
