Started in 2002, Telefónica's Contemporary Photography Collection was created with the aim of reflecting the area of emancipation from which photography reasserted its validity as a vehicle for artistic expression, freeing itself from its documentary role.
Dates: 24 March to 12 June, 2011
Venue:Centro Fundación Telefónica. AV. Arequipa 1155, Lima
The collection, with more than 80 works, covers the period lapsed between 1973 and 2007. The appropriationism of Vik Muniz or Richard Prince, Marina Abramovich and Cindy Sherman's reflections on body and identity, or the images of the German school that spun from the works of the Becher marriage, illustrate some of the key lines of work of photography over the course of the last decades.
The selection presented is organized according to the main conceptual axes that structure the collection: Body; Identity; Architecture; Nature and Re-enactments.
