Amid one of the greatest economic crises of recent times, there are, however, sectors in which it is barely an issue. Growth around the internet and new technologies (NTs) is so fast that job opportunities are constantly popping up, while at the same time attempts are made to consolidate new company models and relations among agents. These changes give rise to new jobs, new professions that are not yet taught in universities and professional training establishments. They are professions born from the hybridisation of knowledge, which are constructed halfway between practical experience and theoretical knowledge. There is no official qualification to become a developer of applications for mobiles, a 3D animator or a community manager. There are people in these new professions who have come from very diverse traditional fields such as journalism, marketing, illustration and IT. Some are also self-taught, having acquired their knowledge on the internet and through contact in a community. Every technological change generates these opportunities, and, as this change is a major one, there are many opportunities.
In this cycle of ten debates, “Internet and new technologies create new professions”, we want to learn about some of these new jobs from the very people who are doing them. The speakers have been asked to describe their work, the qualities and skills that are necessary, how they got there and recommendations for those interested in these professions. These are interesting times, which, at the same time, means greater risk and more opportunities. We hope that this new cycle will contribute to understanding these changes.
