The Moche or Mochica culture emerged and developed between the 1st and 7th centuries A.D., in a setting located on the long narrow desert strip of the northern coast of Peru, where the remains of its pyramidal temples, palaces, fortifications, irrigation works and cemeteries bear witness to the high standard of their artistic and technological development and the complex organisation of its society.
The magic of the Internet lets us be eye-witnesses to one of the most important ceremonies in the history of Peru: the funerals of the Lord of Sipán, an event that took place about 1700 years ago, in a grand Mochica sanctuary and centre of power. The website, which is sponsored by the Fundación Telefónica, was created under the management of the archaeologist Walter Alva, who discovered the royal tombs of Sipán.
