The Internet portal of the San Millán de la Cogolla Foundation, www.fsanmillan.org, sponsored by Fundación Telefónica, is a top flight tool for research into the Spanish language and a mandatory port of call for all matters related to the study of the origins and evolution of Castilian Spanish. The portal provides access to the document collection of the Library of the Monastery of San Millán, which is considered to be one of the best in Spanish monasteries, with tools that allow online collaborative work.
The process of digitalising the documents in the Library of Suso Monastery, begun in 2001, has continued with over 72,000 pages from 212 volumes of incalculable value having so far been completed. The digitalisation of these documents, the results of which can be viewed on the webpage of the San Millán de la Cogolla Foundation, has been done on a page-by-page basis, including elements like the spine, the cover, etc.. Strict guidelines have been followed in handling and using the documents because of the value of the works, which are original, unique documents, of extraordinary value for study and consultation in various linguistic disciplines, as well as for learning about an important part of our past.
A 3D virtual creation of Suso Monastery has also been completed, which provides an extraordinarily realistic virtual visit to this monastery, which is located in the Municipality of San Millán de la Cogolla and was added to the World Heritage List in 1997.
