The Ages of Man

In 2004, the Fundación Telefónica entered into an agreement with The Ages of Man Foundation with a view to digitalising the catalogues of the exhibitions on the Historical Artistic Heritage of the Dioceses of Castilla and León.

The first thing that strikes one about these exhibitions is that there was a move away from the traditional structure of presenting an exhibition in accordance with the development of the artistic styles, following museistic criteria, towards story-exhibitions, in which a parable is told and the works of art are the instruments that replace words.

Secondly, "The Ages" also represented a methodological innovation, as the items in the exhibition are placed one after the other, with no obstacles to prevent the dialogue between the spectator and the work, restoring the icons' capacity for communication.

Thirdly, "The Ages" exhibitions were housed in Cathedrals. It would be very hard to find better venues. In fact, the icons were created for them and they regain their capacity for communication in this natural environment. imagenes have been muted, both because of the phenomenon of securalisation and desacralisation and because of the lithurgical reform brought about in the Church after the II Vatican Council.
