

The Hispania Nostra association was founded in 1976, on the occasion of the celebration of the "Year of European Architectonic Heritage" and inspired by the Europa Nostra organisation.
Hispania Nostra is a public interest, not-for-profit association. Its purpose is to defend, safeguard and enhance Spanish Cultural Heritage and its settings, in the scope of civil society, in accordance with its Articles of Association.
Hispania Nostra has carried out several programmes: collaboration and annual meetings with the Associations and Bodies linked to Cultural Heritage, organisation of conferences, thematic cycles and seminars, publications such as its Newsletter or the prestigious magazine "Cultural Heritage and Law"; education on Heritage in schools.
Since 1978, Hispania Nostra has been in charge of managing the Spanish projects in the annual EUROPEAN UNION - EUROPA NOSTRA awards for the conservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage; issuing the calls for applications and presenting and disseminating the various prize-winning entries.

One of the most interesting initiatives linked to heightening awareness of our Cultural Heritage to be carried out in Spain is the one that is run by Hispania Nostra, one of the collaborators in arsVirtual.
For several years now, under the auspices of an agreement signed with Madrid City Council, the project "La ciudad con ojos de jóvenes"has been carried out. Its main purpose is to encourage knowledge about Cultural Heritage and its protection among young people, with the conviction that education is the best guarantee in defending it.
Moreover, the Hispania Nostra website provides the opportunity to play Trivial Quiz on Cultural Heritage, an original proposal intended to promote knowledge of our country's Cultural Heritage.
Hispania Nostra and Vocento have entered into a collaboration agreement to publish the 'Hispania Nostra Heritage Press Magazine', which includes news on the conservation, defence and promotion of Cultural Heritage and its settings throughout Spain.
