Key players

The key players in the Proniño program are all Latin American children and adolescents who have their rights infringed day after day because they are forced to work and denied quality education.

Accordingly the Proniño program provides the resources necessary for working children and adolescents, or those at risk of joining the workforce, to attend school. This includes not only the handout of school uniforms and materials, but also health checks and nutritional help which, in many cases, minors do not currently receive. Also, centres carry out educational activities to encourage good use of free time, thus avoiding possible risky behaviour.

At times, these minors find themselves in precarious family and social situations, so it is also necessary to carry out integrated actions involving the family, the school and the community. The program seeks to generate alternative sources of income, through vocational training, as well as the transformation of cultural patterns that justify child labour.
