- The comprehensive protection of working children.
- Ongoing and high quality education for these minors.
- Strengthening the social and institutional framework, guaranteeing sustainability of the intervention in the medium/long term.
These three areas are developed in line with recommendations from the ILO.
Comprehensive protection
To provide the necessary conditions for education, the Proniño programs includes the supply of school materials and uniforms, as well as monitoring and providing assistance with nutrition and health, as in many cases the children's needs are not met. Also, the schools that Proniño works with run educational programs encouraging proper use of time, thus avoiding risky behaviour.
So, given that minors are often in precarious family and social situations, it is also necessary to carry out integrated actions involving the family, the school and the community. Accordingly, Proniño also works on family advice programs, as well as the transformation of cultural patterns that justify child labour.
School attendance rates achieved
- 97.29% of children remained at school.
- 91.60% moved on to the next grade.
- 79.11% regularly attend class.
Educational quality
As well as supporting the renovation of the infrastructure of educational centres, Proniño works to achieve high quality education, including the use of information technology as a tool for inclusion, thus improving real opportunities for the development of minors as well as decent access to the job market.
In this area, Proniño applies to its schools all the experience that Fundación Telefonica has acquired in the educational and IT field through its Educared program. In this respect it covers, among other aspects:
- The creation of Fundación Telefónica Classrooms equipped with computer equipment and Internet access.
- The creation and coordination of local teams.
- A team to train and motivate teachers and educators in the use of IT.
- The development of the Educared Channel from Educador Proniño, a portal for the exchange of educational material and experiences.
- The provision of an Educational Help Office to give support and guidance to users and resolve both technical and educational issues relating to the use of IT.
Work in schools
- Last year saw the implementation of 46 projects for specific educational improvements and/or contributions, benefiting numerous schools and help centres which are part of the program.
- 533 educational workshops have been held, training more than 6,500 teachers and educators.

- *Raise conscience and awareness of child labour, its forms and impact on children.
- Create networks for intervention and prevention between NGOs, schools, institutions, social workers and the communities themselves.
- Generate conditions enabling institutions and social workers to themselves continue the fight against child labour.
