To mark the celebration of Children's Day, Fundación Telefónica, with the support of the Volunteers, organised an event for 250 boys and girls in the third year at Primary School, at the Supermultipadrísimo activity centre.

Mexico 28th April 2012. The event took place at 8:00 in the historical centre of Mexico City, a place where the schools benefiting from the Proniño programme meet. The programme aims to eradicate child labour by giving them a quality education.

In the park, the children enjoy activities such as giant mazes, abseiling and zip line and rolling on water inside water balls. While they have fun, the Volunteers organise their snack time and the children are given a basket of sweets at the end of the event.

The children went away with a pleasant memory seeing that every now and again they referred to the park's name by putting it in the expression: “I'm having a supermultipadrisimo time”.

Our team member, Nataly Diego, from Accounts and Consolidation, attended a Volunteers event for the first time and commented: “I've carried out these types of activities with my family to benefit children of limited means and that is why I didn't have time to attend the events organised by Fundación Telefónica. In my opinion, the event helped the children forget about their situation for a while.  They also learnt a lot and made new friends. Personally, while I contribute by helping out, I also give thanks for what I have. I really encourage my colleagues not to miss out on the opportunity to make children smile”.

These types of activities represent not only a fun event, but are also a way in which the Fundación, along with the Telefónica Volunteers, fulfil a basic right of childhood: To play and enjoy free time. Seeing that the beneficiaries carry out work activities or are susceptible to working, they do not have the time needed to do that.
