Education & ICT Awards Global Scope

Fundación Telefónica to acknowledge the task of educators in the 13rd Educational Innovation Awards

The awards, aimed at teachers and students from all over the world, seeks to offer support in the execution of school projects through ICT. Applications for the contest, whose aim is to promote improvement in educational quality, may be submitted from 9th April to 20th May.

 

  • The submission process at www.educared.org/premiointernacional is open to any project prepared by teachers at non-university education centres offering formal education to students aged 3 to 17 years, both inclusive.
  • Eligible projects can be anything from blogs created through the blogger platform, to websites built using on line web development tools, wiki pages created with MediaWiki or Wikispaces, groups in a social network, works created using tools such as Prezi, Google Earth, etc. In short, any tool or application that allows both teachers and students to carry out their project.
  • The purpose is to promote a methodological change in the classroom, by acknowledging those teachers who follow innovative approaches and use ICT in their activities.

Madrid, 23rd March 2012.- Fundación Telefónica announced the call for entries to the 13rd Educational Innovation Awards, which seeks to acknowledge the task of educators and to promote an improvement in educational quality, in order to encourage an actual change to the methodological approach in classrooms by supporting teachers that work with ICT in an innovative manner.

This award recognizes works carried out by teachers within the context of their classrooms, which stand out due to the efficient way in which they use ICT to improve educational quality. The purpose of the award is to promote a methodological change in the classroom, by supporting those teachers who follow an innovative approach and use ICT in their activities with children aged 3 to 17.

Applications for the contest will be acceptedin Spanish, the co-official languages in Spain (Catalan, Galician and Basque language), Portuguese and English, and it is divided in four categories: class support with multimedia, digital resources, etc.; interactive practical classroom tasks; content-creation tasks; and works carried out in groups and between schools, etc.

In order to foster creativity and educational innovation, works submitted may be created using any available on line tool, and its authors will be required to provide the URL address granting access to the work at the time of the submission. Projects can consist of blogs created using the blogger platform, websites built using on line web development tools, a wiki page created with MediaWiki or Wikispaces, a group in a social network, works created using tools such as Prezi, Google Earth, etc. or any other tool or application that allows teachers and students to carry out their project.

The Award Organization will offer advice to all participants, helping them in selecting the most appropriate tools to meet their objectives, providing guidance regarding their use, etc. The awards ceremony (digital whiteboards, computers and other qualified technological material) will take place in November, in Lima.

 

Fundación Telefónica with Educational Innovation

Through this award, Fundación Telefónica seeks to raise awareness among the educational community on the value of ICT as a resource for education and teaching; to recognize teacher’s efforts to blend ICT into teaching-learning processes; to promote the integration of disciplinary, pedagogical, and technological knowledge to improve the quality of training processes; to promote the TPACK model developed by Mishra and Koehler in 2006; and to encourage full integration of technologies in the educational environments that takes place when technological, pedagogical and disciplinary or content knowledge are integrated. Thus Fundación Telefónicapromotes, besides the continuous training of teachers, the development of collaborative networks among teachers, and access to knowledge.
