Fundación Telefónica's First Competition for Monologues about Technology
At Fundación Telefónica we have set up a Competition to explain what new technologies are and how they affect our daily lives, but in a humorous way. With this initiative we are seeking the unusual, some novel ideas and positive communication on the topic of innovation, which is now an everyday reality.
Why do we need to be so serious when talking about technology, since internet surfing is now as normal as switching on your washing machine? Spain still lags behind the European media, as far as Internet penetration and discussing technology topics in a natural way is concerned. That's why at Fundación Telefónica we have set ourselves a challenge to change the statistics.
How can you take part?
Each competitor needs to prepare and upload a 3 to 5-minute video to The Tic Club site, containing a monologue explaining one of the competition's 10 general topics:
- New mobile phones: iPhone, smartphones in general and technologies they incorporate, such as Wi-Fi, GPS, Compass, Camera
- Broadband at home and at work.
- What is a blog and bloggers? and/or the Twitter phenomenon.
- Searchers and searching for information on the web.
- Education and the new technologies.
- Web 2.0 Chat, Share, Co-operate (Social Networks, collective intelligence, etc.)
- Virtual worlds and augmented reality.
- Internet outside PCs or internet connected household appliances
- RFID. Applications in daily life, etc.
- DTT, HDTV and television of the future.
The video does not need to be professional quality; what matters is what you are saying and how you say it.
Dates
You can upload your video from 15 September 2009 to 15 January 2010. For this whole period, anyone can visit the site to register and can then vote only once. The members of the jury are a stand-up comedian, an actor, a blogger who specialises in technology, and a member of the Fundación Telefónica Debate and Knowledge team. The jury will select 2 prize-winners from the most popular videos.
Their names will be published on the site on 3 February, 2010.
If you are a winner...
The 2 prize-winners will perform their 30-minute version at the The Tic Club Competition closing ceremony, alongside some well-known stand-up comedians. In addition, they will each receive a prize of a trip for two to Las Vegas to see the Jerry Seinfeld show.
