Fundación Telefónica has created Debate and Knowledge as a program aimed at generating, analysing and popularising knowledge, with the intention of offering itself to the public as a committed witness and key reference in the analysis and development of the Information Society, as well as in the study of the social impact of the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies).
What are our goals?
In order to be a useful witness and essential reference in our area of action, Debate and Knowledge has the following goals:
- To become a reference in the development of the Information Society and contributing to the positioning of Telefónica in this field.
- To build and use the structures needed to generate and communicate knowledge.
- To support innovative projects.
- To influence by means of prestigious projects in the decision centres that determine global communication agendas.
- To integrate the needs and activities of reference in the Spanish autonomous communities and Latin American countries, particularly those in which Telefónica is present.
What do we do?
To accomplish these goals, Debate and Knowledge carries out activities aimed at promoting and facilitating its presence at the forefront of advanced research and communication of knowledge, particularly on Information and Communication Technologies and their social impact.
These activities revolve about the following axes:
Creation of knowledge:
- Promoting research projects and specific studies on matters and trends related to ICT.
- Generation of a stable network of specialised public that add value (intellectuals, university professors, experts).
- Continued monitoring of programs and projects.
Analysis and debates:
- Organisation and participation in congresses, seminars, workshops and conferences, both national and international, on the issues investigated.
Popularisation of knowledge:
- Producing publications based on the results of research and studies by Spanish and foreign authors.
- Publication of books in different formats as part of the Colección Fundación Telefónica, with the Ariel publishers (Grupo Planeta), on the conclusions of different analyses and studies.
- Creation of notebooks and working documents in the academic and professional environments.
- TELOS magazine: Communication and Innovation Notebooks. A quarterly publication that is a reference in the study of ICT and their impact on society.
Cycle: "Open Debates"
The new cycle of open debates "Concepts that are changing the future" will carry out monthly debates on each of the new key concepts that are changing the future as we knew it at such a quick pace. Each event will have the presence of three experts with different profiles and views on reality, aided by the contributions and experiences of those present and the power supplied by new technologies for online participation.
The Debate and Knowledge website
Since the development of the Information Society and communication of knowledge are goals in which all persons should participate and benefit from, Debate and Knowledge has determined to make its website a window through which everyone who wants to can gain a clear, rigorous and informative view of issues related to new technologies and services and their impact on our society. Therefore, this website is simply the online manifestation of our main activities, making available to net users all the advantages of multimedia and 2.0 web tools to make this space an interactive forum where debate and analysis are guaranteed.
For this reason, the contents of the Debate and Knowledge website are organised around these sections:
INFORMATION SOCIETY
A portal of recognised and increasing prestige that gathers all information on the development of the Information and Knowledge Society in Spain. To do so, it obtains and unifies information ranging from detailed data from annual Information Society reports to round table cycles, publications, blogs, courses and the initiatives of Telefónica for communicating the latest technological innovations, the services offered by them and their effect on professional and private environments. In addition, the portal includes the Information Society Bulletin: Technology and Innovation, an electronic publication with a popularisation and educational aim that means to analyse the most important technological novelties related to the Information Society, its main accomplishments and figures, not only in Spain but worldwide.

A space where web users are offered, for consultation or purchase, all publications of Debate and Knowledge to date.
TELOS MAGAZINE
Online version of the magazine TELOS. Communication and Innovation Notebooks, an updated forum for analysis, research and debate that discusses the evolution of ICT and their impact on society, economy, politics and culture, with the participation of leading world experts. Its 22 years of existence and the backing of a plural and multidisciplinary scientific-editorial council have made TELOS an international publication of reference in Spanish.

This section shows all the events organised to date by Debate and Knowledge, such as presentations of publications, workshops, seminars and debates.
In addition, it will inform of all events of relevance in other organisations in the field of the Information Society and new technologies.
