Fundación Telefónica: a step towards a brighter future
Telefónica, a leader in the telecommunications sector, carries out activities in the countries in which it is present which, due to their nature, substantially contributes to the economic, social and cultural development of each country, improving quality of life and promoting equal opportunity among its people. The object of this is to ensure that corporate success advances in parallel to social progress. To do so, an important social and cultural activity has been carried out in the last eleven years, channeled through the FOundation, currently present in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.
Fundación Telefónica was created in 1998 is Spain with the aim of establishing a long-term structure for the social and cultural activities of all companies of Telefónica group; at this time it is the main expression of the solid and voluntary commitment of the group with the communities in which it operates.
Eleven years later, Fundación Telefónica has a team of over 130 professionals promoting this social and cultural task in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. In addition to the work carried out in these eight countries, by means of programs such as Proniño and Telefónica Volunteers, the activities of the Foundation are extended to another six countries in Latin America such as Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama and Uruguay, in which it works together with the local operators of Telefónica.
The activities of Fundación Telefónica
The activities of the Foundation take place in five broad programs focussed on education and application of Information and Communications Technologies. The goal of these programs is:
Provide a service to society in order to innovate in education using ICT. Promoting their use in classrooms with the purpose of accelerating their educational use in the teaching and learning process, contributing ito increasing educational quality and promoting equal opportunities.
Significantly contributing to the gradual elimination of child labor in Latin America by continued enrolment in quaity schools of thousands of children and teenagers.
Placing Fundación Telefónica as a foreruneer in top research on the Information Society and the social impact of ICT by creation, debate and diffusion of knowledge.
Promoting the commitment of Telefónica Group employees with society, channeling their solidarity and makingTelefónica Group a world leader in Corporate Volunteering, reaching the greatest social network of employee volunteers.
Promoting and spreading modern and contemporary art and the artistic applications of ICT.
