In late November 2009, Fundación Telefónica plans to close its exhibition hall on the third floor of the Telefónica building in Gran Vía 28. This unique building was built in 1929 and enjoys the highest level of protection; for this reason, the project involves restructuring the first four floors and preserving all decorative elements in their original state. The exhibition halls will be located on the third and fourth floors, and will house exhibits from the funds of the Telefónica Art Collections as well as temporary exhibitions. The Telecommunications Museum will be located on the second floor. With this renovation, the area devoted to art will increase from 800 to 4,000 square metres.
The new headquarters of Fundación Telefónica is destined to become a reference in the fields of art and technology, as well as an essential meeting point in the cultural scene of Madrid.
