"ACERCÁNDOME LENTAMENTE AL LÍMITE"

versión en español

Acercándome lentamente al límite (As I slowly approach the limit) is a visual and aural construction in which two different views are juxtaposed: the idea of a technological transformation and the image of our bodies. The installation consists of four short video sequences shown simultaneously on twelve monitors. The content of the piece always refers back to the human, to the body. The images are not computer generated but rather have been taken directly from reality in close-up shots. Post-production work is focused on heightening this organic aspect of the human being and to poetically express the conflicts that arise from the intersection between the contemporary body and the technological apparatus. Acercándome lentamente al límite also explores the aesthetic and poetic consequences of confronting visual elements and linguistic constructions in non-traditional ways.

Esther Mera was born in Madrid in 1964. She received a degree from the Complutense University in Madrid and a Masters of Fine Arts, Cinema and Video from the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. In her artistic work, she employs fundamentally the image in movement to construct installations. Her theorectical work is focused on the study of new technologies and their influence on contemporary modes of expression and representation. Her work has received various awards and has been shown in numerous international festivals and art centres.
