The Telefonica Foundation is the result of the patronage of Telefónica de España S.A. and was established on March 11th, 1988. It is in charge of the conservation, administration, management, exhibition and dissemination of the artistic, historical, cultural and technological heritage of the company. Among its functions, the Foundation is responsable for the management of two valuable Collections. The Historical-Technological Collection traces the evolution of telecommunications from its origins until the late 60s and is housed in the Telefónica Museum in Madrid. The Contemporary Art Collection is made up of works by Eduardo Chillida, Luis Fernández, Juan Gris, Pablo Picasso y Antoni Tàpies and is housed in the National Museum, Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. The Telefonica Foundation also has two Temporary Exhibition Halls in which contemporary art shows are programmed regularly. A special although not exclusive emphasis is placed on works by artists which are created with modern and information technologies. In complement to this, the Telefonica Foundation organizes lecture series and round table discussions and prepares and publishes catalogs.
