Open Maps. Latin-American Photography (1991 – 2002)
More that forty photographers participate in this double collection, which will be on an exhibit tour in Europe and Latin America for tour years, beginning in 2004. The Project, which is the result of detailed research, attempts to explore the complex mosaic of cultures that live together in Central America, the Caribbean and South America, expanding into North America and Europe.

Philip-Lorca diCorcia
is one of the innovators in street photography. His work repositions everyday life and brings it closer to creative life, combining natural and artificial light in his portraits.

Toni Catany, the artist in his paradise

Contains 140 photographs: calotypes, still lifes, nudes, portraits, views of archeological ruins and the latest Polaroid transfers. The exhibit was prepared by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and produced by the National Art Museum of Catalonia. It is the first exhibit to be shown as part of an agreement, in which Fundación Telefónica grants use of their exhibit rooms to the National Committee for Fine Arts and Culture for showing the work of National Photography Award winners.

World Press Photo 2002
The collection contains close to 180 photographs submitted by reporters, photographers, photography agencies, and newspapers and magazines from around the world. The themes of these photos range from the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 to the war in Afghanistan, art, sports, nature, science and technology and snapshots taken in developing countries.

Work
Work presents 350 images (separated into eight sections) from the period of 1960 through the year 2000. These include projects for Vogue, Oui Magazine and Vanity Fair, portraits of personalities from the film industry, fashion, politics and art, as well as female nudes and these nudes interacting with objects.

Karelia: Miracles & Co.
La Fundación Telefónica provides us with the exhibit Karelia: Miracles and Co. by Joan Fontcuberta, as part of PhotoEspaña 2002. The exhibit is a voyage to the inside of a Finnish monastery, a place which conceals an enigma.

Valente. Para siempre. La sombra
The Telefónica Foundation presents the exhibition & book Valente Forever: The Shadow, edited posthumously. This dual combination is the result of the third collaboration of the poet with photographer Manuel Falces.

A photographic project based on the idea of Bilbao as a polyhedral and multi-faceted city. Its diversity has been captured by the eyes of seven artists: Toni Catany, Joan Fontcuberta, David Hilliard, Luis Izquierdo-Mosso, Luis Palma, Humberto Rivas, Begoña Zubero.

25 Years Later, a Graphic Memory of the Transition

The sample groups together various series of large format pieces, most of them made from reproductions of masterpieces of European painting. They constitute both a tribute to Western culture and a criticism thereof.

"The Factory. Hiperphotographic Recording and Installations." The project, presented within the framework of Photoespaña 2000, displays the expressive discoveries generated by new media and provides a rigorous close-up view of a historical and social reality rooted in the collective memory. Forty authors belonging to Photo-League, the leading organization of social photography in the United States, offer the portrait of a multi-faceted and socially committed New York of the 1930’s and 40’s.

Prague - Berlin - Ronda
The Czech artist Jiri Hanzl brings together 200 photos that document the film shoot of "La niña de tus ojos", recreating the three settings depicted, Prague, Berlin and Ronda, which were present in the project in reality and in fiction.

The exhibit invites one into a journey through various open narrative spaces. These are articulated in four video installations of two simultaneous projections and four photographic series, all of which are inter-related and in dialogue with each other.

The end of the eclipse
According to the organizer, José Jiménez, "there is a series of indications suggesting that finally, the art coming out of Latin America is achieving the level of recognition on the international scene that it deserves, both for its quality and cultural uniqueness. The End of the Eclipse attempts to make advances in this direction, creating an open critical dialogue about today’s art as produced in this large community of countries and cultures.

Securitas
Joan Fontcuberta presents at la Fundación Telefónica his latest interactive visual project, Securitas, based on the concept of security. Through a mechanical device called "Security Tectonics", the public can insert their keys to obtain an enlarged, three-dimensional view of scenes in relief.

Visual Artifacts
The visual artifacts are structured in three groups: "Small Trays", "Practical Projects" and "The Tablets of Black Island". The piece, which combines words, images and objects, constitutes a criticism of the current culture of consumerism and globalization by using advertising slogans and visual artifacts.

Closed Circuits
La Fundación Telefónica presents "Circuitos Cerrados" ("Closed Circuits"), three new installations by Francesc Torres. "Perder la Cabeza" ("Lose One’s Head"), "Soliloquio de la Felicidad" ("Soliloquy of Happiness") and "Acelerador de Partículas Ensimismadas" ("Deep Particle Accelerator") reproduce, through metaphor, cyclical and closed circuits, with the artist incorporating individual and social situations to these.

Scattered Affinities
The exhibition Scattered Affinities via the works by Catherine Beaugrand, Mira Bernabeu, Heath Bunting, Daniel G. Andújar, Juan Fernando Herrán, Jan-Peter E.R. Sonntag and Eulalia Valldosera, attempts to create - sometimes in an absolutely provocative way - spaces for reflection on new forms of relations and of human behaviour.

Muntadas: Projects
"MUNTADAS: PROJECTS" is the first opportunity to see his work in Madrid since his last show in 1988 at the Reina Sofía Museum. "Media Architecture Installations", an InteRom interactive which combines his latest Internet projects, "Hybridspaces", with a collection of his work in recent years will also be launched at this time. A new piece within the series "On Translation" and a project from the 70s, "Confrontations" (1974), will also form part of the show.

Yaacov Agam
A pioneer of kinetic art in the 50s, Agam has since continued his line of extensive experimentation with new mediums, including cutting edge technologies.
